The goal for this project was to design a flat-pack piece of furniture that could be CNC milled. Since the goal of this class was to learn more about milling, there were no requirements to design for a certain market. As a result, I made the decision to make this a personal project.

Mountains is the result of this decision. As a big fan of the “Witcher” series of books, I wanted to create a shelf that could display them, while tying into the adventure theme. As the name implies, it draws its influence from mountain ranges, and I chose to use a walnut veneered plywood that I then applied danish oil to in order to achieve the golden/brown contrast on the layers.

This is a project that I am very proud of, and I think that it deeply reflects my personal tastes in materials and design. I hope you enjoy!
