Duramech
Capstone 2023
Duramech is the result of a years worth of research and design. The goal was to create a keyboard that could fulfill the needs of users in high stress, industrial environments. The requirements included IP65 dust and water resistance, NEMA 4x impact resistance, as well as the ability to be easily cleaned and repaired rather than replaced, thus saving time and money.
The finalized design features a rugged design with large ridges and bumpers as well as a large number pad for use with medium sized work gloves. The materials used include a steel alloy comprised of nickel and chromium as well as a fluoroelastomer membrane for added chemical and oil resistance to cater to a more niche segment of the industry. Also included was an optional polycarbonate chassis for a slightly less rugged, yet lower cost alternative.
Removing the screws on the bottom of the chassis allows Duramech to split into two main sections: The upper chassis with the membrane and the lower chassis with the key switches. This keeps maintenance clean and simple while providing quick access to the internals.
Fully disassembling Duramech exposes all of the components.
A VESA mount on the bottom allows Duramech to be mounted where needed.
Duramech is powered by a single USB-C cable and has a USB-A passthrough port. Both ports are internally sealed for water resistance.
