Filleting Knife

The goal of this project was to analyze a brand and apply their design language to a product that they don’t currently make. The Dewalt Filleting Knife is designed to run on the existing 8V battery system made by Dewalt. It also utilizes other existing Dewalt parts such as the trigger mechanism. This makes it compact and portable while allowing it to function as part of an existing expansive lineup of tools.
The filleting knife is designed with ergonomics at its core and its unique shape is the result of lots of research, iteration, and testing.
The battery indicator on the back shows three battery levels and the black lever extending from both sides of the upper grip allows for easy removal of the blade.
The ergonomic design accommodates a wide range of hands and the motor placement optimally counterbalances the weight of the blade.
